Målt fugl for fugl er ederfuglejagt en skygge af fordums tid. Men da der i dag anvendes kønsdifferentieret jagttid anser DCE stadig jagten for bæredygtig

For hver gang strand- og havjægerne i 1982 kunne lægge 7-8 nedlagte ederfugle på dækket, kan tidens jægere kun lægge én.
Hvor der i 1982 blev indrapporteret cirka 190.000 nedlagte fugle, bliver der i dag kun indberettet cirka 25.000 ederfugle.

Vurderet over de sidste tre sæsoner, kan det dog se ud til, at bunden er ved at være nået for det danske udbytte af ederfugle fra Østersøen.
Udbyttet har stabiliseret sig på mellem 27.000 fugle i sæsonen 2016 mod cirka 25.000 fugle i hhv. 2017 og 2018

For at undgå, at jagten skubbede til den voldsomme nedgang i østersøbestanden af ederfugle indførte Danmark kønsdifferentierede jagttider, som skulle skåne de voksne hunner under jagt, da det har vist sig, at det er stor dødelighed bandt de rugende hunner, som især har presset bestanden mod bunden.
“Begrænsninger i jagten på ederfuglehunner indført i 2004 og 2011 medførte et estimeret fald i udbyttet på hhv. 10.400 og 3.800 hunner per år, og det svarer til, at andelen af gamle hunner i det samlede udbytte er faldet fra 12 % til 7 %. Efter 2014 skydes der ikke hunner.”
Det skriver DCE, Århus Universitet, der udgiver den årlige udbyttestatistik.
Med til forklaringen i det voldsomme fald i udbyttet hører åbenbart også der er blevet færre, der udøver jagt på havets største dykand.
“Frem til omkring 2000 var den generelle tilbagegang i udbyttet af ederfugle i Danmark sandsynligvis mere et udtryk for en nedgang i antallet af ederfuglejægere end for bestandsændringer (Christensen 2005).”
Ederfuglejagt er stadig bæredygtig jagt
Selv om bestanden af ederfugle har været i tilbagegang anses jagten stadig som bæredygtig, da det ikke er jagten, der er årsag til at bestanden har bevæget sig i den forkerte retning.
“Med en jagttid udelukkende på ederfuglehanner fra 1. oktober til 31. januar vurderes det, at den nuværende jagt på ederfugl i Danmark er bæredygtig.”
Det skriver DCE og begrunder denne vurdering med, at den nuværende kønsfordeling med ca. 80 % hanner afspejler et overskud i bestanden, som vil kunne udnyttes jagtligt uden effekt på bestandens reproduktion.
“Ensidig jagt på hanner vil være bæredygtigt så længe andelen af hanner i bestanden ikke kommer under den naturlige fordeling på ca. 60 %. Dette forhold bør derfor følges løbende.”
